Every year, with the support of the Belgian Directorate-General for Development Cooperation (DGDC), VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from developing countries to study one of the 15 International Course Programmes (ICPs) or one of the 6 International Training Programmes (ITPs). The ICPs and ITPs target people from the South with a responsible position in civil society (at a university, school, NGO, ministry, etc).
Each year there are a maximum of 180 scholarships available for first-year ICP students and a maximum of 70 scholarships for ITP participants.
ICPs are master programmes, lasting one or two academic years, all of which lead to a master’s degree. They focus on specific problems of developing countries. The main target group for the courses are students from developing countries, although the courses can also be attended by Belgian students or students from other countries.
The ICPs aim to provide a training in such a way that the knowledge that the students acquire is disseminated and applied in the home institution and country of origin.
As an official body administrating government funds, VLIR-UOS uses on this website the qualifications attributed in the Flemish Register for Higher Education. This database is governed by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO).
However, the discussion regarding the qualification (Master/Master of Science/…) of all master programmes – including the ICPs – in Flanders, Belgium, is an ongoing one.

Eligibility
RMIT University International Research Scholarships (RUIRS) will be awarded to:
new international postgraduate research students, intending to enrol in Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2009
Applicants must possess excellent academic results.

Citizenship
Applicants who are citizens of all overseas countries, except New Zealand are eligible.

Commencement
Applicants must be commencing full-time enrolment in a Higher Degree by
Research (HDR) program in Australia in 2009 at RMIT University. The
approved program duration is two years for a Masters by Research degree
or three years for a Doctorate by Research degree.
RUIRS 2009 awardees must commence their studies in Australia in 2009
at RMIT University by 30th August 2009. The RUIRS 2009 award cannot be
deferred to another year. If a candidate is unable to take up a RUIRS
award, the candidate must apply again for the award in the following
year.

Academic
Applicants must have received a Firm Offer or Conditional Offer of a
place for entry in a Higher Degree Research (HDR) program at RMIT
University, to commence in Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2009. The offers
must be granted no later than 31st October 2008.
Sponsorship/ Scholarship history
Applicants who are applying for or have received external funding for
tuition and/or living allowance are eligible to apply. The allocation
of the tuition fee and living allowance for RUIRS 2009 is at the
discretion of RMIT University and will be determined by the value of
external allowances. Please provide details of the sponsorship
arrangement and evidence of the funding and duration. RMIT University
must receive the evidence by the closing date, 31st October 2008.
English language requirements
Applicants must provide evidence of English language proficiency prior to 31st October 2008.
As a guide, RMIT University requires the following English language requirements for entry into research programs:
* IELTS - 6.5+ (no band less than 6.0)
* TOEFL – Paper based = 580+ (TWE4.5+)
* TOEFL – Computer based = 237+ (TWE4.5+)
* REW – English for Academic Purposes Advanced 2
The IELTS/TOEFL/ RMIT English test result must be current or have
been taken no more than 2 years before the commencement of the research program.
Note: Some programs have higher English language requirements

Non-Eligibility
The following students cannot apply for the RUIRS 2009 award:
Currently enrolled RMIT University students in a Research Masters Program or Doctoral Program.

Value of RUIRS 2009 Award
RMIT University will provide:
* The annual tuition fees in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR)
program undertaken at RMIT University, in a program included on the
Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students
(CRICOS) for the standard duration of the program.
* The cost of a standard Overseas Student Health Cover policy
approved by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Ageing
and which covers the student and dependants for the period of the RUIRS
2009 award.
* A living allowance for successful candidates of the RUIRS 2009 for
the standard duration of the program. As a guide, RMIT University
recipients of the RUIRS 2008 were awarded a living allowance of
approximately AUD$19,000 per annum for the standard duration of the
program – two years for a Masters by Research degree or three years for
a Doctorate by Research degree.

The RUIRS award does not provide for travel, medical costs
associated with the issue or renewal of a student visa, thesis
expenses, cost of English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas
Students (ELICOS), or costs associated with overseas fieldwork.

Duration of The RUIRS 2009 Award
The RUIRS 2009 award will cover the normal duration of the program from
the time the student commences the HDR degree at RMIT University. The
normal duration of an RUIRS is three years for Research Doctorate
degrees and two years for Research Masters degrees.
The duration of an RUIRS will be reduced in the following situations:
* During suspension of the RUIRS award.
* If a student is transferring from another institution.
If an RUIRS awardee transfers to another institution, the funding for the RUIRS award will cease.

The Swiss Government through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) is granting a limited number of scholarships to developing countries, among which Indonesia is included.

These scholarships are offered to Indonesian POSTGRADUATE students wishing to study at a Swiss university. The aim of the scholarship is to enable grantees either to further their education or to undertake research work in the fields in which the universities are particularly active. The intended study should be useful for the development in Indonesia. In principle, the scholarship holders can study at any national Swiss university or Federal Institute of Technology. The candidates should take into account the possibilities offered by Swiss universities. Following programs are not included in this scholarship:

1. Fine arts and music
2. Undergraduate studies
3. Hotel management studies
4. Student exchange programs
5. Part-time studies
6. On-the-job studies
7. Correspondence courses

The duration of grant is for the nine-month academic year. Under certain conditions, which are justified by FCS and the related university, the scholarship may be renewed.

REQUIREMENTS

• Indonesian citizen
• University degree ( min. Sarjana Strata-1/bachelor degree or equivalent)
• Candidates must be under 35 years old when applying (birth date after December 31, (1973)
• Sufficient knowledge of one of the official languages in Switzerland (i.e. German, French or Italian), depending on the location of chosen university, and English for some courses. Each candidates will have to undergo a language test at the Swiss Embassy in Jakarta in order to determine the oral and written language ability.
• Acceptance letter from the chosen university.
  Before applying the candidates need to contact the professor or direction of the postgraduate program at the chosen educational institution in order to get a written confirmation of acceptance which must be submitted when filing the application. The requirements to obtain the letter have to be seen in the web site of each universities. Generally the request of the acceptance letter must be completed with a detailed and precise plan of the intended postgraduate study program, curriculum vitae and certified copies of the university diplomas including academic transcripts. A certified translation is required if the originals are not issued in English, German, French or Italian.
• Detailed study/research plan and motivation describing clearly and precisely the aim of study. The possibilities offered by the Swiss universities should be taken into account, also the possibilities of professional reintegration when returning to Indonesia

Six master's scholarships are provided by The International University
in Germany (IU). The scholarships available for its master's programs
in computer science and information and communication technology. The
scholarships are sponsored by the internationally renowned computer
companies SAP and CAS and cover the tuition fees.

All students, with or without scholarship, will have the opportunity

The idea for the Peace Scholarship Program originated at the Australian International Education Conference in 2001 in Sydney in response to the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. The program was designed to help build global peace and understanding and operates on the principle that providing opportunities to students to study abroad promotes the interaction of diverse cultures through, improves cross-cultural understanding, leading to enduring global peace.

The Peace Scholarship Program is committed to providing opportunities for eligible students in selected countries worldwide to study abroad in Australia at undergraduate or postgraduate level and at a later stage to provide opportunities for Australian students to study abroad.

Less than two per cent of students enrolled in higher education globally have the chance to benefit from studying abroad. The Peace Scholarship Program aims to provide international educational opportunities to deserving students from selected countries who would not otherwise have the option.

282 students from thirteen countries have been awarded Peace Scholarships to date, commencing undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Australia each semester since July 2004.

Australian universities are wonderful supporters of the Peace Scholarship Program through the provision of tuition fee-waivers and a wide variety of organisations also support the Peace Scholarship Program through cash and in-kind donations.

AusAID Indonesia, IDP Education Australia, Edith Cowan University, Macquarie University and the University of Notre Dame, in association with the Peace Scholarship Program are offering the opportunity for up to four students from Indonesia to study abroad in Australia for one semester commencing February 2009.
WHAT DO I GET?
There are up to four Peace Scholarships available for eligible students in Indonesia worth up to AU$15,000 and covering:

HOW DO I APPLY?
STEP 1
Ensure you fulfil each of the selection criteria as detailed below:
* At the time of application you have completed at least three semesters and no more than six semesters of your first full-time undergraduate degree of an accredited course at any university in Indonesia
* You have achieved at least a 65-70% average mark in your degree to date
* You can preferably gain credit transfer for your study abroad program at the host university in Australia for your degree at your home institution
* You have a level of English language proficiencythat satisfies both Student Visa requirements for entry to Australia as well as host institution requirements
* You do not hold citizenship or permanent residency in Australia and have not previously studied overseas, either in Australia or elsewhere (unless on a scholarship or to study English)Â

* One reference/testimoni al from someone you have worked with on a particular community service project that you talk about in your application (preferably your supervisor), or from someone who can honestly discuss your involvement in community based activities and projects and who has known you for more than 2 years. This reference/testimoni al must follow the format outlined on the Community Leader Reference Form and address the criteria requested.

Every year, with the support of the Belgian Directorate-General for
Development Cooperation (DGDC), VLIR awards scholarships to
students from developing countries to study one of the 15 International Courses (ICPs) or one of the 6 International Training Programmes (ITPs).

Each year there are a maximum of 180 scholarships available for
first-year ICP students and a maximum of 70 scholarships for ITP
participants. Although these programmes primarily address students and
professionals from developing countries, they are also open to
other people. For more information, please refer to the more comprehensive VLIR
publication ‘International Study Opportunities in Flanders, Belgium’,
available at the Belgian Embassies, at selected universities in Africa,
Asia and Latin America and downloadable from the VLIR website
(www.vliruos.be). It contains details on course contents and
application requirements, and explains the VLIR scholarship
programme and the application procedure.
The application form can be found in the publication ‘International
Study Opportunities in Flanders, Belgium’. It can also be obtained
directly from the respective university or downloaded from the VLIR
website. The application form should be returned to VLIR no later
than 1 February 2008.

The New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) scheme offers the opportunity to people from selected developing countries to undertake development-related studies in New Zealand.

This may include study related to education, health, rural livelihoods, governance, human rights, or economic development, depending on the human resource development training needs of the home government.

New Zealand -Development Scholarships are offered for full-time, tertiary level study at participating New Zealand education institutions.

The NZDS scheme has two categories:

New Zealand Development Scholarships – Public category (NZDS-Public)

The NZDS-Public scholarships scheme is a bilateral scheme available to individuals from selected partner countries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The selection criteria is determined by the partner government and NZAID.

Shortlisted applications, mostly from public sector employees, are endorsed for a scholarship by the partner government. Employees from civil society or private sector organisations may apply for the NZDS-Public in some countries depending on country-specific selection criteria. The levels and fields of study available for study in New Zealand are determined according to the partner country’s human resource development training needs.

New Zealand Development Scholarships – Open category (NZDS-Open)

The NZDS-Open scholarships scheme is a non-bilateral scheme available to candidates of some developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific. Under the NZDS-Open scheme, candidates independently apply for a scholarship.

NZDS-Open scholarships are generally directed at employees of private sector or civil society sector organisations, including non-governmental organisations. In some countries, public sector employees can also apply for a NZDS-Open scholarship depending on the country or region-specific selection criteria. This criteria also determines the levels and the fields of study under which candidates can apply to study in New Zealand.

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are demand oriented fellowship programmes designed to foster institutional development. The NFP target group consists of mid-career professionals who are already in employment and who are nationals of and working in one of the selected countries.

The overall aim of the NFP is to help alleviate qualitative and quantitative shortages of skilled manpower and to do so within the framework of sustainable capacity-building directed towards reducing poverty in developing countries.

To maximize the fellowships’ impact on capacity-building, NFP funded training must be linked to the institutional development of organizations. A wide range of organizations are eligible – governmental, private and non-governmental. They can include educational institutions, planning agencies, ministries, community-based organizations, and private enterprises, for example.

The NFP is initiated and fully funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the budget for development cooperation. This ministry has contracted the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic) to administer the NFP.

Target group

While fellowships are awarded to individuals, the need for training must occur within the context of the organization for which an applicant works. The training must help the organization to develop its capacity. This means that applicants must be nominated by their employers. In fact, an application without the support of an employer will not be considered.

Half of the available funding from the NFP budget should be spent on fellowships for female candidates and for candidates from sub-Saharan Africa.
