The Education Deanery at Liverpool Hope University invites applications for the following fees only PhD studentships commencing in October 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter.

* One full-time studentship (UK/EU or International) tenable for three years subject to satisfactory progress)

* Two part-time studentships (UK/EU or International) tenable for five years subject to satisfactory progress).

We offer a supportive and stimulating research and scholarly environment and welcome applications relating to any field of educational policy and/or practice and/or childhood studies as well as other allied fields and professions.

Professors and senior academics have a wide range of research interests and expertise including:

* Higher education policy and practice, the nature of interpretive enquiry, the institutional conditions for learning and schools and communities and the nature of inter-agency, multi-professional work.
* Student behaviour in schools, inclusion, difficulties in literacy, issues of change and development in schools and the role of schools in shaping students’ beliefs in their own self efficacy.
* Marginalised and vulnerable children and young people, particularly those who are looked after by the state; early years education; children’s rights issues and the development of new and creative data collection techniques.

Personal Requirements
Applicants normally will be required to have:

(i) A good honours degree in a relevant subject
(ii) A Masters degree with a research component
(iii) Where English is not applicant’s first language an IELTS score of 6.5 (or TOFEL equivalent)

To apply applicants must complete the University’s Postgraduate Research application form (available at: http://www.hope. ac.uk/postgradua te-research- degrees/forms. html) accompanied by a 2,000 word research proposal and 500 word statement in support of your application. Studentships will be awarded on a competitive basis with the research proposal and supporting statement being key in the decision-making process.
