Research Fellow (PhD scholarship) in Web Studies
At the Department of Information Science and Media Studies, University of Bergen, there is a vacant position as Research Fellow (Ph.D. scholarship) for four years within the area of web studies. For positions with a 4 -year duration 25 pct of the period will be designated to teaching and other duties at the department.

Web studies are part of the department?s strategic efforts to develop research within this area. Trust is an essential prerequisite for the development of the social web, whether it is search engines, commercial web sites or web communities. The successful candidate is expected to develop and to work on a project of his or her own design on the role of trust in the development of services on the web. Projects on semantic web applications are of particular interest. The project can have the form of an empirical study of one or more services, the development of an application or model of a system, be of a theoretical nature, or combine these approaches. The project should contribute to the development of better models for the understanding of the relationship between trust and information on the web.

The position is open for applicants within different fields of the social sciences. Applicants must have a Master degree in Information Science, Media Studies, Economy, Sociology or corresponding education.

The PhD-scholar will go through a 3-year's approved training programme for a PhD-degree. A project description (5-8 pages) will be enclosed in the application, which should contain implementation plans for different parts of the research work. It should discuss and justify topics, research questions, and choice of theory and methods.

Salaries start at salary level 45 (code 1017/LR 20.3) on the government salary scale (corresponding to NOK 353.200 per year), following ordinary meriting regulations.
